OC Learning Solutions, established by Jennifer, is a devoted institution specializing in delivering tutoring and support to individuals of all ages grappling with Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and related language-based learning differences. Jennifer, the founder, not only holds certification as a Dyslexia Tutor but is also a dedicated mother to two delightful young women, a loving wife, and the proud parent of an energetic Mini Australian Shepherd named Emma. Her decision to transition from a corporate career to this educational journey was inspired by her daughter’s personal learning challenges. Jennifer’s educational background encompasses a B.S. in Business Management, a minor in Human Resource Management, Orton-Gillingham (OG) Practitioner Training, and the distinguished certification as a Certified Barton Reading and Spelling Tutor. Jennifer’s unwavering commitment lies in the academic improvement and triumph of her students. She firmly recognizes that each child possesses a unique learning style and adapts her tutoring approach to suit their individual needs. Jennifer is celebrated for her endless patience, fostering an environment of encouragement and positivity that nurtures a “can-do” attitude in her students, paving the way for academic accomplishments. At OC Learning Solutions, the central focus is on fostering confidence, addressing specific learning requirements, and empowering students to excel through tailored alternative methods that align with their specific learning style.

MISSION STATEMENT

At OC Learning Solutions our goal is to build confidence by addressing each student’s needs, empowering them to succeed with the skills they aren’t learning with traditional methods, unlocking their potential for life.

FIVE TOOLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL

The right intensity

Ideally, the student should meet with their tutor a minimum of twice a week for 50 minutes.

An Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach

At OC Learning Solutions we believe that teaching an OG method is essential to a dyslexic learner’s success. The Barton Spelling and Reading System is just that, an OG based system that is systematic, sequential, and multi-sensory.

Appropriate teacher to student ratio

Nothing beats one-on-one instruction. No two students with dyslexia learn at the same pace. When we tutor students individually, we can present the material that is paced specifically for each student.

A well-trained tutor

Although each student progresses at their own individual pace, it is recommended that the student continue until they are at or above grade level. The OG approach follows a progression and many students choose to continue tutoring even after they are at grade level to finish the progression. This process can take two to four years to complete.
Susan Barton says that, “research has shown that the single most important factor in a student’s educational success is the knowledge and skill of his or her teacher, and that is even more significant when the student has a disability.”
